BECOME A GAPAF COACH
GAPAF develops an international system for the education, assessment and continuing professional development of coaches in Aerial Power Athletics. The pathway is designed for specialists who want to teach safely, work according to international sporting standards and support athletes at every stage of their development.
WHO CAN APPLY
Applicants should be at least 18 years old and have practical experience in aerial sport, gymnastics, coaching, physical education or a related field. A valid first-aid qualification, appropriate safeguarding knowledge and evidence of prior education or sporting experience may be required. Exact entry requirements depend on the selected licence level and applicable national regulations.
THE INTERNATIONAL COACH LICENSING PATHWAY
1 — APPLICATION
Submit the GAPAF application form together with identification, a professional profile, evidence of sporting or coaching experience and the required supporting documents.
2 — FOUNDATION EDUCATION
Complete the approved theory programme covering GAPAF rules, athlete welfare, ethics, safeguarding, anti-doping principles, anatomy, biomechanics, lesson planning, risk assessment and emergency procedures.
3 — TECHNICAL TRAINING
Study the methodology and safety requirements for the relevant Aerial Power Athletics disciplines. Candidates learn correct progressions, spotting techniques, equipment checks, load management and safe use of training spaces.
4 — SUPERVISED PRACTICE
Complete practical coaching hours under an approved mentor. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to plan and deliver structured sessions for athletes of the appropriate age, level and discipline.
5 — ASSESSMENT
Pass the required written or online examination and a practical coaching assessment. The assessor evaluates communication, technical knowledge, safety management, teaching quality and professional conduct.
6 — LICENCE DECISION
Candidates who meet the applicable standard receive a GAPAF international coaching licence for the approved discipline and level. The licence confirms professional status within the GAPAF education system; it does not replace any licence or legal requirement imposed by national authorities.
COACH LICENCE LEVELS
GAPAF may offer progressive licence levels, from entry-level instruction to advanced and international coaching. Each level reflects the coach’s education, practical experience, technical competence and scope of responsibility. Progression normally requires additional learning, verified practice and assessment.
VALIDITY AND RENEWAL
A GAPAF coach must maintain good standing and complete continuing professional development. Renewal may require updated first-aid training, evidence of active coaching, refresher education, compliance with current GAPAF rules and payment of the applicable fee. A licence may be reviewed, suspended or withdrawn where safety, ethical or professional standards are not maintained.
RESPONSIBILITIES OF A LICENSED COACH
• protect athlete health, dignity and welfare;
• use safe, progressive and age-appropriate training methods;
• inspect equipment and the training environment;
• follow GAPAF technical, ethical and anti-doping standards;
• keep professional knowledge current;
• report accidents, safeguarding concerns and serious safety risks;
• respect athletes, parents, officials and other professionals;
• coach only within the discipline and level covered by the licence.
