Professional rigging is the foundation of safe aerial sport. GAPAF develops international standards for specialists responsible for the inspection, installation and supervision of aerial equipment at training sessions and competitions.
A certified rigger protects athletes, officials and organisers by ensuring that every suspension point, apparatus and safety system is suitable for its intended load and used in accordance with the event’s technical plan.
Applicants must demonstrate technical competence, responsible decision-making and a working knowledge of fall protection, load management, rescue planning and the specific characteristics of aerial apparatus.
Understanding of structural anchor points, rated hardware, inspection procedures, force factors and equipment compatibility.
Ability to conduct risk assessments, communicate clear instructions and maintain an incident-response and rescue plan.
Independent judgement, accurate records, confidentiality and compliance with GAPAF ethical and safety principles.
Submit experience, qualifications and supporting documents.
Complete the required safety and technical programme.
Pass theoretical and practical competency checks.
Receive GAPAF status subject to validity and renewal requirements.
The official registry identifies specialists currently listed by GAPAF for international or national technical responsibilities.
